He is Risen

"He is Risen"

I just so happen to be writing this during Holy week leading up to Easter, which seems fitting. Personally, I despise all the froo-froo Easter imagery and products. Bunnies and chicks, pretty little flowers, fancy eggs (or not so fancy plastic things filled with junk) - the essence of cuteness. Nothing about Easter is "cute". At least, it's not supposed to be if you are a believer in Jesus Christ.

What are we celebrating here? God Himself, our creator, ruler over the entire universe, came down to earth in the form of a man. He was brutally tortured and executed by the very people He created. All so that He could take the penalty for OUR rebellion and sin against Him. Then He conquered death itself and rose back to life! For Jesus Christ is God, and invites us all to follow and believe and escape eternal condemnation.

So, are bunnies and chicks all decked out in pink and yellow really fitting?

The day I took these photos it was overcast with stormy clouds and sunlight breaking through. One of those days that takes your breath away, and reminds you of the majesty and power of God. The texture came from photos of sidewalks and patched up asphalt - rock unmoving.

"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stonghold." - Psalm 18:2 ESV

"But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not fine the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, 'Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.' " - Luke 23:1-7 ESV
